COURSE DESCRIPTION

This credential reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of heavy commercial vehicles in the automotive service and repair sector. This qualification is for candidates working in the automotive service and repair industry as commercial vehicle mechanics on a range of heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses. Individuals will learn about workplace safety and equipment and gain hands on experience servicing everything from batteries, transmissions, engine and drive assemblies to hydraulic, steering and braking systems.

Who can apply

Candidates over the age of 18 (including senior citizens) who are currently working in the automotive industry or wish to enter the industry can apply. The target audience for this course is both domestic and international students and they must have the appropriate visas and wish to acquire the skills, knowledge, and practices necessary to find employment in the automotive retail, service, and repair industries.

Packaging Rules

Total number of units = 36

22 core units , plus

14 elective units , of which:

  • 1  unit must be from one of the Specialist Elective Groups A or B below
  • of the remaining 13  units required to make up the elective unit total:
  • up to 13  may be from the Specialist Elective Groups and/or the general elective units listed below
  • up to 6  may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training Package or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

 

Elective units chosen must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the overall integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid vocational outcome.

Career Opportunities

Individuals completing this course will be qualified for employment as a technician in a Dealership, Franchise or Repair workshop working on heavy commercial vehicles. This qualification may provide entry into employment in the following or related roles:

Study Pathway

After successfully AUR31120 – Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, students may apply for: AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, AUR40820 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling or other relevant qualifications.
